Paper IO

Paper IO is a territory-control game with a deceptively simple premise. You move across a grid leaving a trail behind you, and when you close a loop back to your claimed territory, everything inside becomes yours. The catch is that while you are outside your zone drawing a trail, you are vulnerable — if anyone crosses your trail, you die.

That vulnerability is the entire game. Claiming territory means leaving safety, and the more you try to claim at once, the longer your exposed trail and the bigger the risk. A greedy run for a huge chunk of land can be ended instantly by a rival who clips your trail. The tension between ambition and caution is what makes every excursion a decision.

Playing against others adds the strategic layer. You can hunt rivals who are mid-trail and vulnerable, clipping their lines to eliminate them and claim their dropped territory. You can also defend your own zone by catching intruders before they close their loops. The map becomes a constant negotiation — when to expand, when to defend, when to attack.

It is easy to understand and hard to master. The core loop is tight, matches are short, and the territory map gives immediate visual feedback on who is winning. For players who enjoy area-control games with direct player-versus-player interaction, Paper IO nails that format.

Move outside your territory to leave a trail, then loop back to your zone to claim everything inside the loop. The larger the area you enclose, the more territory you gain.

Your trail is your weakness. While outside your zone, if any player crosses your trail, you die and lose your territory. Close loops quickly, or risk getting cut off.

You can attack rivals by crossing their trails while they are vulnerable. Claim the leaderboard by holding the most territory.

Close loops fast. The longer your trail, the more exposed you are. Claim small chunks often rather than one huge risky loop.

Hunt vulnerable rivals. Watch for players mid-trail outside their zone. Crossing their line eliminates them and nets their territory.

Defend your borders. When rivals enter your territory to claim it, catch them before they close their loop.

Avoid greed. Huge territory grabs are tempting but leave a long exposed trail. Small steady gains survive longer.
